Internal Audit Manager

Location: Eau Claire, WI Market or Suburban Minneapolis

Position Profile

Reporting directly to the President, this position is a key support component in the bank’s organizational plan for the future.  The Internal Audit Manager will lead an existing team of 2 Internal Auditors, as he/she works to determine whether bank departments are performing consistently with management directives, bank policies and procedures, generally accepted accounting principles, laws, regulations and company objectives. This role is responsible for developing risk-based audit programs, reviewing bank policies for risk factors and advising management on possible risks. In collaboration with the Compliance Department and appropriate staff, the Internal Audit Manager works to remediate audit findings and reduce risk across the bank.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Development and execution of the Annual Risk-Based Audit Plan which includes managing the entire internal audit process and engaging and managing any external audits as required, and evaluating and testing internal control over financial reporting.

  • Monitoring and coordination of the Regulatory Examination processes which includes data gathering, on-site exam activities and follow up and responses as necessary.
  • Supporting and communicating with senior management and the Board, or Audit Committee regarding internal audit plans and activities. Also will assist in performing any special reviews requested by the board of directors, audit committee or senior management.

Position Requirements

A broad background in accounting, the ability to manage people and evaluate processes, excellent communication skills and strong comfort level in interacting at all levels of the organization as well as with regulators and auditors are essential skill sets. A detail oriented, process improvement work style is also a must.  The successful candidate will be a hands-on team leader with 5 or more years of progressive experience in public audit, internal audit or regulatory examination. Internal audit or regulatory exam experience in the banking sector is a must with a strong preference for those with experience serving banks with $500 million to $2 billion in assets.  A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or equivalent is required.  Certified Internal Auditor, Certified Financial Services Auditor and/or CPA designation is required, however CPA designation is preferred.
