Director of Accounting

Location: La Crosse, WI

Position Profile

Reporting directly to the Controller and leading a team of 6, the Director of Accounting will develop, implement and maintain accounting systems to collect, analyze, verify and report financial information at the corporate and subsidiary levels.  The role is responsible for improving and evolving accounting internal controls, systems and processes.  While leading and managing accounting and accounting related aspects of company initiatives, he/she will collaborate with members of the accounting team as well as executives, and business and operations unit managers in support of meeting the organization’s financial objectives.  The director will provide technical accounting GAAP guidance and support to all company entities including involvement in due diligence and other activities surrounding acquisitions/dispositions. He/she will coordinate activities relating to both internal and external audits and implementation of agreed upon recommendations as well as supervising the completion of Federal and State tax reporting requirements (including income, property, sales and use, payroll and other local taxes), insurance reports and other reports required by government regulation.

Position Requirements

The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills and the potential to grow into an executive level role.  He/she will exhibit superior communication skills and project management acumen with the ability to lead cross functional teams. The successful candidate must have proven working knowledge and technical GAAP experience with the ability to communicate technical information and requirements across the organization. In addition, familiarity with the regulatory environment and experience interacting with regulators and auditors as well as implementing change as related to audit findings are a must.  5 to 10 years of progressive accounting experience, in the financial services arena, with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field with a CPA are a must.
